Landlord Accreditation

After close monitoring of the applications received for the First Lets Lettings Accreditation Scheme a decision has been made to withdraw it from June 2009. It has been recognised that landlords prefer to apply to the regional East Midlands Landlord Accreditation Scheme ( EMLAS) as this can offer benefits and incentives to accredited landlords. The First Lets Accreditation Scheme was a property accredited scheme as opposed to the EMLAS landlord accredited scheme meaning that once landlord accreditation is approved a full portfolio of properties will be included. First Lets has agreed to support EMLAS by agreeing to prioritise accredited landlords who approach the First Lets Scheme wanting to advertise their properties.

The EMLAS scheme benefits landlords in a number of ways

It enables a landlord to advertise themselves as being a competent person, reassuring potential tenants that they are not one of the minority of rogue landlords that operate within the private rented sector, and they are professional in the way that they conduct business.

Accredited landlords are less likely to be subject to enforcement action as they will already have achieved satisfactory standards.

Market advantage over landlords who are not accredited.
